The Alliance Française de Sacramento is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Allied liberation of France
with a festive evening called
Vive la Liberté! on Saturday, October 19, 2024, 4:00-7:00 PM in the CLARA auditorium in Midtown

Vive la Liberté ! aims to recreate the atmosphere of jubilation that swept through France as Allied forces liberated the country from Nazi occupation.

The celebration will kick off with simple swing dance lessons, followed by live music, French hors d’oeuvres and, of course, champagne, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. Of course there will be chocolates and plenty of other desserts.

To add to the festive commemoration of this pivotal moment in history, the event will feature some dancers in period costume and songs in French and English.

Should you have 1940s /swing-themed attire, it's a great occasion for it. (Completely optional)

$20 Wine Raffle / Wine Pull tickets

will be available for purchase at the event
We'll have approxiamately 18 bottles of wine (some French, some Californian) ranging in retail price from $35 to $155! One of them comes with a bonus tour and tasting at Andis Wines.
The 18 winners will get to blindly select a bag and go home with a nice bottle of wine (or a holiday present)

“Just ask anyone who has visited the Normandy American Cemetery,” said Don Rodes, the Alliance Française de Sacramento Board President. “In the long history that our two nations share...  no event is more profoundly moving, more deeply connects us to each other, than the liberation of France in 1944.”

D-Day took place in early June 1944, but it took Allied forces, led by General Eisenhower, until the fall of that year to free all of France. In towns and cities all along the route to victory, Allied troops and local folks celebrated together, often overcoming the language barrier with a shared love of music and dance.
